Privacy Policy
Summary
- We collect the minimum account info from your sign-in provider (Google or Apple): email, display name, avatar (if any), and a technical account ID.
- Your inventory data (items) and notes, as well as categories/groups, may be stored in the cloud (Firebase Firestore) to support account-based features.
- If you use AI Scan, we process recognized text (OCR) to generate autofill suggestions. The app does not upload your photos as part of AI scan.
- You may optionally attach photos to your inventory items. These photos are uploaded to and stored in the cloud (Firebase Storage) linked to your account.
- We use analytics and crash reporting services (provided by Google Firebase) to understand how the App is used and to improve its stability. This data is not used for advertising.
- We currently do not serve ads and do not sell personal data to third-party marketers.
Data We Collect
Account information
When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email, display name, avatar URL (if available), and a technical account ID. This is used only to authenticate you and secure access to the app.
App data (cloud)
When you are signed in, we store app data in the cloud (Firebase Firestore), such as items you create, item notes, categories/groups, and related metadata (e.g., creation and update timestamps). This helps operate account-based features.
App data (local)
Some app data is also stored locally on your device for performance and offline use. If you sign out, uninstall the app, or use in-app clear options, local data may be removed depending on the action.
AI scan data
If you use the AI scan feature, we process recognized text (OCR) from the product photo to generate autofill suggestions. The app does not upload your photos as part of AI scan.
Item photos
You may optionally attach photos to your inventory items. These photos are uploaded to Firebase Storage and stored in the cloud linked to your account. Photos are used solely to display item images within the App. When you delete an item or your account, associated photos are removed from cloud storage.
Device and technical information
We may store basic technical metadata linked to your account (e.g., device family/model and iOS version) to help with security, debugging, and reliable operation of the app.
Crash and error reports
We use Firebase Crashlytics (provided by Google) to collect crash reports and non-fatal error data. This helps us identify and fix issues in the App. The following data may be collected automatically when the App encounters an error or crash:
- Crash stack traces and error messages (technical details about what went wrong).
- Device model, operating system version, and available memory.
- Application state at the time of the crash (e.g., current screen).
- Your account identifier (to help us investigate issues reported by specific users).
- Breadcrumb logs — a limited sequence of app events leading up to the crash.
This data is used solely to improve the App's stability and is not used for advertising, tracking, or profiling. Crash data is processed by Google under its Firebase terms. You can learn more at Firebase Privacy.
Analytics
We use Firebase Analytics (provided by Google) to understand how the App is used — for example, which features are popular and where users encounter problems. Analytics data may include your internal account identifier, general usage events (such as screens visited and features used), and device information. This data is used to improve the App and is not used for advertising or sold to third parties.
How We Use Data
- Authenticate your account and keep sessions secure.
- Store and display your inventory and notes associated with your account.
- Store and display item photos you attach to your inventory items.
- Send notifications you opt in to (e.g., expiry reminders).
- Process AI scan requests to generate item autofill suggestions (when you choose to use this feature).
- Understand how features are used and improve the App based on aggregated usage patterns.
- Improve the app’s reliability and performance.
We currently do not sell your personal data. We do not access your email or contacts.
Third-Party Data Sources
Open Food Facts
When you scan a product barcode, the App may query the Open Food Facts (OFF) database to retrieve product information such as name, brand, category, quantity, and nutritional data. Open Food Facts is a free, open, collaborative food products database licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL).
When querying Open Food Facts, we send only the product barcode and a technical User-Agent header identifying the App. No personal data (such as your name, email, or account information) is transmitted to Open Food Facts.
Product data retrieved from Open Food Facts is stored locally on your device and, if you are signed in, in your cloud account as part of your inventory items. This data is used solely to populate item details for your convenience.
Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. We determine the appropriate retention period based on the nature of the data and the purposes for which it is processed.
After account deletion, we may retain certain data in anonymized or aggregated form, or as required by law, for a reasonable period. Local app data stored on your device is your responsibility to manage.
Your Rights
Where required by applicable law, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data, such as the right to request access to or deletion of your data. To make any such request, contact us at the email below. We will respond to valid requests within the timeframes required by applicable law.
We reserve the right to verify your identity before processing any request and may decline requests that are unreasonable, repetitive, or not required by law. We may retain certain data as necessary for legitimate business purposes or as required by law even after a deletion request.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this Policy
We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. Changes become effective upon posting to this page. Your continued use of the App after any modification constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. We are not obligated to notify you individually of changes. It is your responsibility to review this Policy periodically.

The App is developed and operated by an independent developer based in Portugal. For data-related inquiries, contact: squirrelvault.tracker@gmail.com.
